Traditional Crafts
Traditional crafts are handmade items and artisanal skills passed down through generations, using local materials and time-honoured techniques.
A study analysed data from 7,182 adults living in England and found that people who engaged in creating arts and crafting had significantly higher life satisfaction, happiness and a sense that life is worthwhile.
Our sessions revolve around traditional activities to get you back into making things by hand. No experience is required to start. Find out more about each activity we facilitate below.
Whittling
Whittling is the art of carving shapes out of raw wood using a light, small-bladed knife. This craft allows you to be one with nature and express your creativity.
It is also an incredibly mindful activity that’s been proven to relieve stress and help you focus on the present moment.
Whittling is the star of Thrive Outside, the craft that our sessions revolve around. When you come to a session, expect to see many different types of projects: a spoon, a Celtic cross, cute animal decorations, you name it!

Special Sessions
We occasionally have special sessions where we do other traditional crafts like willow weaving, cordage making, straw work, nature printing, and so much more!
Keep your eyes open for announcements.

Seasonal Activities
We do specific projects or activities for some seasons, like whittled Christmas figurines or straw wreaths.
But seasonality does not just apply to crafts at Thrive Outside. We also forage and cook seasonal food on the campfire, anything edible we can get our hands on!
