Glowworms return to North Yorkshire after more than 100 years

A remarkable conservation project has brought glowworms back to Nosterfield Nature Reserve in North Yorkshire for the first time in more than a century. Volunteers helped rear glowworm larvae before releasing them into the restored habitat, with hopes of establishing a self-sustaining population.

It's a lovely reminder of what can happen when people come together to care for nature, something we value deeply at Thrive Outside.

Our Roots

Thrive Outside CIC brings people together through nature-based session in green spaces within York and North Yorkshire. We provide all equipment and resources for you to learn traditional crafts, make and share simple meals over the campfire, using food surplus.

We also support those who may be isolated, financially disadvantaged and who may have physical or emotional difficulties.

Our sessions are for those aged 16+, encouraging intergenerational interaction, with our groups including people aged 16-80.

Our Friday sessions provide an opportunity to connect with nature, learn new skills, and spend time in a supportive outdoor environment. Even the act of just being outside reduces stress. The session may include:
